Colin Walkling founded CF Composites in 2018 on thirty years of composites experience. The work that comes to us is usually the work that has been turned down somewhere else: awkward geometry, a tool that no longer exists, a part needed before it is reasonably possible. We are set up for exactly that.

Design & Reverse Engineering

Work from a finished drawing, a hand sketch, a damaged original or a physical sample. We model the geometry, define the laminate and design the tooling around it.

Autoclave Manufacture

Prepreg laid up in a temperature controlled cleanroom, bagged, and cured under pressure with the full cycle logged. Out-of-clave and oven cure available where the part or the programme calls for it.

3D Printing New

Printed tooling, fixtures, prototypes and end-use parts. Useful for proving geometry before you commit to a mould, and for short-run parts where a tool would never pay for itself.

3D Scanning New

Capture an existing part as a mesh, then work from it. This is how a component with no surviving drawings gets back into production, and how we check a finished part against the model it came from.

Assembly & Finishing

Trimming, drilling, bonded and mechanical assembly, insert fitting and finishing to paint-ready or visual-carbon standard. Done in dedicated rooms rather than on the laminating bench.

Every case study on this site follows the same shape: what the customer had been told was impossible, what we did instead, and what the part did once it was in service. Written NDA-safe, so the engineering is visible and the customer is not.

Prepreg goes from the freezer to the cleanroom to the autoclave without leaving the building. Nothing is subcontracted out and back.

How a job runs

  1. Enquiry and review

    You send geometry or a sample. We tell you whether we can make it, how, and what it depends on. If it needs an NDA first, we sign one first.

  2. Design or reverse engineer

    Model built or recovered from scan data. Laminate defined. Tooling designed.

  3. Tooling

    Mould tool, pattern or fixture made in-house, or your existing tooling checked in.

  4. Cleanroom layup

    Prepreg out of the freezer, cut, laid up and bagged in a temperature controlled room.

  5. Cure

    Autoclave, oven or out-of-clave. Full cycle logged, with the printout available for your records.

  6. Trim, assemble, ship

    Trimmed, bonded, assembled, finished and checked before it leaves. Parts ship worldwide.

What to send

  1. Geometry as STEP or IGES, native CAD, a drawing, or a physical sample. Any of these is enough to start.
  2. Quantity, and whether this is a prototype, a short run or ongoing production.
  3. Material or laminate spec if you have one. If you do not, say so and we will specify it.
  4. The date you need it. Tell us the real date, not a comfortable one.
  5. Tolerances, finish and any inspection requirements.
  6. If you need an NDA in place before you send anything, say so first and we will sign one.
